    Finland is a magnificent country, civilised, clean and spacious. Although the winters can be very cold they have excellent winter sports. Beautiful forests and lakes make it a great place to visit.

    Many Finnish speakers have excellent English and a huge portion have Basic English and it will only be worthwhile to learn Finnish if you intend to spend a significant time in Finland. The reason for this statement is that is between the European languages, certainly the most difficult language to learn. When spoken by the Finnish speakers it is a nicely melodic sound with a wide range of vowels and soft consonants.

    Several languages like Spanish, Chinese, Yiddish, French and Portuguese are probably the other languages you will find in other countries apart from English, due to colonisation or emigration. Finnish however you will only find in Finland, so unless you are a language expert who wants to learn the language or intend to spend very long periods there, it will be of no use to you.

    The language has a fearsome reputation because of its fourteen nouns and only two are never used. Inflection is a defining characteristic as it has cases and endings to the words in order to show the grammatical function. That is the reason for some Finnish words to be very long.
